Sellers scores Easter Bunny Late Model 100 win at SoBo

By Mike Smith

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Defending track NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division Champion Peyton Sellers sped past Daniel Silvestri with 53 laps to go and went on to win Saturday night’s NASCAR Easter Bunny Late Model 100 at Virginia’s South Boston Speedway.

Saturday night’s win in the caution-free race was the second of the season for the former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion from Danville, Virginia.

Silvestri trailed by 2.498 seconds at the finish. The race was Silvestri’s second outing in a Late Model Stock Car. He had competed in twin 75-lap Late Model Stock Car Division races at South Boston Speedway on March 30.

Mike Looney finished third, holding off Lee Pulliam and Philip Morris in a battle for third place over the closing laps.

The race featured two lead changes among Sellers and Silvestri, with Sellers leading twice for a total of 86 laps and Silvestri leading once for 14 laps.

Sellers averaged 91.168 mph in winning the race that took 26 minutes and 19 seconds to complete.

Two new winners emerged in the pair of 25-lap NASCAR Limited Sportsman Division races Saturday night, with Jacob Borst and Daniel Moss splitting wins in the twinbill.

In the first 25-lap race, Borst took the lead from Jessica Dana on the 10th lap and held off a fast-closing Danny Willis, Jr. to secure the win. Borst’s margin of victory over Willis was .287-second.

Dana finished third with rookie Landon Pembelton and Moss rounding out the top five finishers.

The second race featured an inverted start among the top four finishers of the first race, but Moss started from the pole after a crash that occurred before the first lap was completed took out Pembelton and heavily damaged Willis’s car.

Moss led the entire race, edging Dana by .216-second to claim the win. Borst finished third with Drew Dawson in fourth and Cole Bruce in fifth.

Nathan Crews took the lead from Jordan Pickrel on the second lap and took the win in the night’s 30-lap Budweiser Pure Stock Division race.

The win was the second for Crews in as many starts at South Boston this season.

Pickrel finished second, with Bruce Mayo third, Randy Hupp fourth and Justin Dawson in fifth.

Kevin Currin took the lead from Aaron Cash with four laps to go and held on to win the night’s 15-lap Budweiser Hornets Division race.

The win was the first of the season for Currin at South Boston.

Cash finished second with Steven Layne, Jared Dawson and Josh Dawson completing the top five finishers.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East series will return to South Boston Speedway on Saturday night, May 4. Visit SouthBostonSpeedway.com for more information.
