Risk of strong storms Sunday in north Georgia lessens somewhat

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Stormy weather is still expected across Georgia today but the National Weather Service says the threat lessened somewhat overnight as the "enhanced risk" area shifted to the northeast and out of the state.

However,  all of Georgia can still expect some strong thunderstorms.

"The potential for strong to severe thunderstorms (still exists)," according to a 4:00 posting on the NWS Peachtree City Office Facebook page this morning.

Forecasters say "damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes" remain the greatest threats.  Strong winds and possible tornadoes struck parts of Texas and Mississippi yesterday and overnight last night as the storm system continued to move eastward.

In addition, a Wind Advisory is in effect for north and central Georgia 10:00 tonight.
