Boys basketball playoffs: West Hall stuns Chestatee; Lakeview, Jefferson, LCA roll; Branch, White, Johnson eliminated

ROSWELL — West Hall rallied from a huge halftime deficit and then rode a big overtime period from Noah Edmondson to snag a 55-53 win over Chestatee Tuesday in the first round of the Region 7-4A tournament at Blessed Trinity.

The win pushed the Spartans (8-17) into the Class 4A playoffs. The loss ended Chestatee's season at 13-13.

Chestatee led 24-10 at halftime and took a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter. But the Spartans got hot behind Braden Martin, who had two big 3-pointers, and Smith and Sawyer Passmore, who hit a late trey to send the game to overtime tied at 45.

Edmondson had 6 of the Spartans' 10 overtime points. Colton Smith came up big with three offensive rebounds, as well some steals on the defensive end, in the overtime period.

Martin finished with 14 points to lead West Hall. Passmore had 12 points and Edmondson 11 points for the Spartans.

Ethan Popham led Chestatee with 15 points. Daniel Briseno added 10 points for the War Eagles. 

 

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 65,
TALLULAH FALLS 42

Adam Cottrell posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds and added 5 steals to lead the Lions to a win in the Region 8-A playoffs.

The Lions (18-8) had struggled down the stretch losing 3 of their last 4 games overall but looked to get out of their late-season funk on Tuesday.

Lakeview jumped on Tallulah Falls quickly taking an 18-7 lead. The Lions pushed the lead to 34-12 by halftime and led 55-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

Blake McIntyre added 17 points and 4 steals while Arturo Varela chipped in 10 points for Lakeview. KJ Millwood had 7 points and 8 rebounds and Conley Millwood had 7 points for the Lions.

Lakeview next will play Friday in the Region 8-A Semifinals.

 

JEFFERSON 55,
JACKSON COUNTY 33

Jacob Radaker scored 16 points and Donsha Gaither had 12 to lead Jefferson into the semifinals of the Region 8-3A tournament and a trip to the Class 3A playoffs.

Jefferson (16-9) will play No. 2 seed Hart County on Thursday. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Hart.


LANIER CHRISTIAN 70
CORNERSTONE PREP 60

Lanier Christian beat Cornerstone Prep to advance to the GICAA I-AA championship game Friday night at home. Game time is 8 p.m.

Trevin Last scored a game-high 25 points and Tommy Wandrum had 17 points to led the Lightning in the win.

Joseph Edwards chipped in 10 points.

LCA (13-6) opened the game on an 18-8 run, but Cornerstone settled down to charge back in the second period, closing the gap 30-23 at the half.

The two schools kept pace with each other in the third quarter. LCA, however, outscored Cornerstone Prep 22-19 to seal the win.

Flowery Branch finished the season 1-24.

White County finished the season 8-18

 

CLARKE CENTRAL 67,
JOHNSON 44

Johnson finished the season 8-19 overall with a 0-11 region mark.
