As rain continues to periodically fall across Georgia, the level of drought is easing, slowly but surely.
This week's map from the U.S. Drought Monitor, indicated 55.92 percent of Georgia is now considered drought free; that's compared to 53.6 percent a week ago.
The areas of the state that continue to be impacted by abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions are a swath of South Georgia, along the border with Florida, and in Northeast Georgia. Hall County, and most counties surrounding Hall, are under a moderate drought designation.
The only parts of the state suffering from severe drought are pockets of a handful of counties in the south metro Atlanta area and in East Georgia. Follow this link to see the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map.
The level of Lake Lanier remains lower-than-normal at 1067.38 (level on Friday, Nov. 29); full winter pool is 1070.
