SUNDAY EDITION: Around Northeast Georgia

*Mule Camp Market shuts down the Square until Sunday. The annual arts and crafts, food and fun fair is hosted by the Gainesville Jaycees.

*The Habersham County Canning Plant season will soon be coming to an end.  The plant will be closed on Mondays starting Oct. 14, but will be open Tuesdays from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm and Thursdays from 7:00 am-12:00 pm.  The last day of operation is Thursday, Oct. 24. 

*Today is the last day for the 25th-anniversary edition of the Cumming Country Fair. 

*Georgia Department of Labor and Culver’s host a job fair on Thursday, October 17 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Culver’s of Commerce (110 Grover Creek Point, Commerce, GA.) The Wisconsin-based burger and custard joint is looking for team members, entry-level managers and a general manager. *Gwinnett County will celebrate afterschool programs at Walk Among the Stars, part of the National Lights On Afterschool initiative, on Thursday, October 24 at 6 p.m. at Collins Hill Park. The free event highlights the contributions of afterschool programs and draw attention to the need for more afterschool programs to serve the millions of children nationwide who are unsupervised and at risk each weekday afternoon. Walk Among the Stars features a Neverland theme this year, and participants are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite characters and enjoy STEAM activities, interactive games, crafts, inflatables and more.

*A spooky telling of the tale of West Virginia's Greenbrier Ghost called "Haints, Headstones and Setting Up with the Dead" will be told by University of North Georgia's Rosann Kent, director of the Appalachian Studies Center. It will take place on the Dahlonega campus, Library Technology Room 382 on October 22 at 6 p.m. The storytelling is part of the UNG Libraries histoic preservation efforts during October, which is Georgia Archives Month.

*UNG assistant professor Dr. Kristine Stillwell will host a lecture on "Death and Material Culture" on October 29 at 6 p.m. in the Hosch Library Room at the Gainesville campus. The lecture is part of the UNG Libraries histoic preservation efforts during October, which is Georgia Archives Month.

*A Transcribe-a-thon on all five UNG campuses will take place on October 31 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Attendees will learn how to transcribed historical documents and practise in a group setting. The event will take place in multiple locations: the Library Technology Center Room 163 in Dahlonega, Hosch Library Room 221 in Gainesville, Cumming Room 262, Oconee Room 313, and Blue Ridge Room 107. The event is is part of the UNG Libraries histoic preservation efforts during October, which is Georgia Archives Month.
