Monday fire causes moderate damage to Banks County home

HOMER – Banks County firefighters quickly contained a house fire to the room of origin Monday afternoon.

“On Jan. 28, at 12:14 units from Banks County Fire/EMS responded to 1099 Hwy 59, Commerce, on a residential structure fire,” said Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols. “Upon arrival, they found a single-family residence with smoke and fire showing from the rear of the structure.”

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

A nearby resident reported the incident and attempted to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Banks County Fire Investigations, according to Nichols.

“The home sustained moderate damage throughout,” Nichols said.

Units remained on scene until 1:55 p.m.
