GDOT funds more than $11M in projects for Northeast Georgia

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has freed up more than $11. 2 million for road resurfacing and bridge replacement projects in Northeast Georgia.

GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland said a total of $8.3 million was awarded for the resurfacing projects. One is a 17-mile project that spans Barrow, Gwinnett and Jackson counties. The work covers a section of State Route (SR) 124 beginning northeast of SR 20 and extending just south of SR 53.

Then in Elbert County, four miles of SR 17 will be resurfaced beginning north of Fairfax Circle and extending west of SR 17/SR 72.

Both of the resurfacing projects were awarded to E. R. Snell Contractor, Inc. Both have an expected completion date of  Nov. 30, 2019.

Meanwhile, in Jackson County, the bridge on SR 82 Spur over the North Oconee River will be replaced by Talley Construction of Rossville, Ga. Total cost for the bridge replacement is $2.8 million.

Strickland said the bridge will be closed during construction and traffic will be detoured for six months. This project has a scheduled completion date of March 31, 2020.

At this point, there's no specific information available on a timeline for road and bridge closures to allow for the construction.
