As part of their plan to become the "college town of tomorrow," as stated in their 2040 comprehensive plan, Lawrenceville elected leaders have approved a $31 million dollar project to expand the city's downtown arts complex.
City Council voted to front the investment, planning that up to 50-percent of the expense will be repaid through private partnerships with arts and education entities.
Any investment from education partners would come only with the approval of the Georgia Board of Regents. Lawrenceville is home to Georgia Gwinnett College.
The expansion project includes a 500-seat theater, educational space and a small cabaret theater that would be nestled in the middle of office space.
