Gainesville to set Sunday Brunch hours at next city council meeting

GAINESVILLE – The Gainesville City Council will vote Tuesday to formally change the city’s alcoholic beverage sales ordinance to reflect the November approval by city voters of the so-called Brunch Bill

The council plans to set the permitted time sales are allowed on Sunday back 90-minutes, from 12:30 p.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Assistant City Manager Angela Sheppard said at Thursday morning’s city council work session, “Just the passage of the referendum does not change it, in and of itself, so we actually need to go in and make the change to our ordinance.”

“We, of course, are trying to coordinate with Hall County, Oakwood and Flowery Branch to get everybody kind of started at the same time,” Sheppard explained.

“So the effective date that we have here would be February 3rd, the very first Sunday in February.”

The city council’s voting session begins Tuesday evening at 5:30 in the Gainesville Public Safety Complex on Queen City Parkway.
