Flowery Branch man threw exercise equipment at officers during confrontation, police say

A Flowery Branch man is facing charges after authorities said he attempted to throw a large piece of exercise equipment at officers during an attempted arrest.

A female roommate who lives with David Umphreyville, Sr. called law enforcement to the home Wednesday night, and when Hall County Sheriff's deputies tried to arrest him, Umphreyville allegedly lobbed the exercise equipment from a loft area of the Samoa Way home, said Lt. Scott Ware, Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

None of the officers were injured.

Umphreyville also threatened "to do physical harm" to the deputies, said Ware.

Ultimately, Umphreyville was booked into the Hall County Jail on four counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, three counts of making terroristic threats and five counts of obstruction.

Everything except the obstruction charges are felony counts.

A bond of $14,750 has been set for the obstruction charges, but no bond had been set as of Friday afternoon for the remaining charges. Umphreyville remained in the Hall County jail at last report.
