(UPDATE) Volleyball: Buford stays perfect in 8-5A; GHS, North Hall, Chestatee each win; East Hall splits

The Buford girls volleyball team stayed perfect in Area 8-5A play after sweeping Clarke Central and Johnson on Tuesday.

The Lady Wolves (16-7, 4-0 Area 8-5A) beat Clarke Central 25-14, 25-14 and the whipped Johnson 25-7, 25-9.

Mikayla Hayden had 15 kills and Parker Venable 10 kills for Buford. Mallory Martin and Julieanne Saliba had 12 digs each and Gabbie Hogle added 34 assists for the Lady Wolves.

Buford next will head to Providence Christian as part of the Gwinnett County Championships looking to defend its title.


NORTH HALL PUSHES PAST DAWSON

The Lady Trojans took out the Lady Tigers in three sets -- 25-23, 23-25, 25-14 -- in an area match on Tuesday in Dawsonville.

Madison Brock had 7 aces, a 9-point service run, 6 kills and 17 digs to lead North Hall, while Grace Hollifield had 15 kills, 4 blocks and 2 aces. Maci Gillespie also had 21 assists and 4 kills, and Ansley Smallwood had 2 kills and 1 block. Zoe Finelli had 5 digs and 2 kills; Bella Foster had 8 digs and 2 aces; and Alexandria Bryant had 3 kills and 12 digs. 


CHESTATEE SWEEPS LUMPKIN, EAST HALL

The Lady War Eagles took out the Lady Indians and Lady Vikings on Tuesday, including a player-of-the-match performance from Nicole Sedwick, who turned in a career-high 15 kills against Lumpkin County.

Chloe Riley also added 5 kills against the Lady Indians, while Maggie McNair had 4 aces, including the match winning point. Sophie Davis also managed 15 digs, while Rachel Vandiver added 13 and Anna McNerney, Maggie McNair, and Nicole Sedwick all had 12.

Riley led the offense agsinst East Hall with 7 kills; Logan Wiggins and Sedwick each also put up 5 kills. McNair led the defense with 13 digs, Davis added 12, Sedwick added 11.

 


GAINESVILLE SWEEPS PAIR IN 8-6A

Gainesville won a pair of Area 8-6A matches on the road in Winder.

The Lady Red Elephants (14-16, 5-3 Area 8-6A) defeated Habersham Central 2-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-7) and then rallied from behind to knock of Lanier 2-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-20).

Ansley Turner led Gainesville with 4 aces, 18 kills, 34 digs while Isabella Appling added 7 aces and 52 digs. Camille Holcomb and Isabella Garrish combined for 43 assists, 28 digs, and 5 aces for the Lady Red Elephants.

Camille Calkins, Kendal Glasper, and Lauren Teasley generated 14 kills and 23 blocks together.  Lauren Ware, Olivia Gettys, and Karlea Grace Langford contributed 21 kills and 31 digs. 

Gainesville next will travel to Dawson County on Thursday before competing in the Hall County Tournament over the weekend.


EAST HALL SPLITS

East Hall improved to 25-7 overall and 3-1 in Area 7-3A play after splitting a pair of matches on Tuesday.

The Lady Vikings defeated Lumpkin County in straight sets 25-21, 25-14 but fell to Chestatee in two tough sets 26-24, 25-23.

Savannah Thellman scored 14 points on serve with 2 aces, 1 kill, 8 digs and 31 assists and Tessa Rider scored 9 points on serve with 15 kills, 1 assist and 29 digs for East Hall. Ivey Shadburn added 9 points on serve with 3 aces, 1 kill, 1 block and 2 digs, Janelly Lara had 12 points on serve with 3 aces, 10 kills, 1 assist and 23 digs, and Alysia Teague scored 3 points on serve with 3 assists and 18 digs for the Lady Vikings.

Nehemiah Jinks had 7 kills, 2 digs and 2 blocks and Lakeria Whelchel had 5 points on serve with 2 aces, 11 kills and 13 digs.

East Hall next will play to Jackson County and Stephens County on Thursday.
