(VIDEO) Buford starts strong, out-scores Newton in second half

BUFORD — There were two sides to the Buford football team on Friday night.

The Wolves' rushing attack dominated Newton for 396 yards and 6 touchdowns, while Buford's defense also kept the Rams scoreless and toothless in the first half en route to a 24-0 advantage.

It was not a perfect night for Buford, however, as the Wolves connected on just 3 of 20 pass attempts and allowed the visitors 297 second half yards, including scoring plays of 77 and 73 yards.

Even that was far from enough to derail Buford, however, as the Wolves pulled away for a 54-27 win at Tom Riden Stadium.

Derrian Brown and Elijah Turner combined with Buford's bruising offensive line to do most of the damage, as Brown finished with 193 yards and 2 TDs on 21 carries, while Turner added 149 yards and 3 scores on 12 carries (a 12.4 yards per carry average).

The duo helped Buford keep pace with a Rams (2-2) offense that also caught fire in the second half, scoring 27 points to Buford's 30, as Adarius Thomas (73-yard TD run) and Robert Lewis (77-yard TD reception) combined to keep the Wolves (3-1) on their toes.

Buford forced three first half turnovers to help pull away -- the Rams finished with four giveaways -- while holding Newton to minus-6 yards rushing. The Rams did finish with 340 yards passing, however, as LT Stowers completed 22 of 38 passes.

The Wolves next face a marquee non-region showdown with Archer.
