Investigators charge Helen woman with shooting her neighbor

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio

CLEVELAND — The White County Sheriff’s Office has released information about an argument that led to a woman being shot last Friday.

Deputies were dispatched to the area of Tray Mountain north of Helen about 3:45 p.m. Friday regarding a woman being shot by her neighbor, according to Capt. Rick Kelley.

Kelley said deputies made contact at the bottom of the mountain with a 42-year-old female who had been shot in the buttocks. The victim was transported by White County ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

According to Kelley, investigators learned that the shooting took place at 251 Backpacker Drive and the offender, identified as Tina Marie Nix, lives at 800 Mule Branch Road, Helen.

The offender had gone over to the victim’s residence and an argument began in the driveway, according to the incident report. During that argument, the offender shot the victim with a small-caliber handgun.

Kelley said the argument was over a misunderstanding between the victim and the offender’s husband.

Deputies went to Nix’s home on Mule Branch Road and arrested her.

Early the next morning, investigators executed a search warrant at Nix’s residence in an attempt to recover the firearm that was used in the incident, according to Kelley, adding they didn’t find the weapon but did find marijuana inside the residence.

Later, following up on some additional information, in another search of the home, the firearm was located.

Nix, 47, has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, and possession of marijuana more than an ounce.

William Christopher Nix, 56, is charged with possession of marijuana more than an ounce.

Tina Nix is currently in custody with bond set at $25,000.

The victim was treated at the hospital and released.

The investigation is ongoing.
