BETHLEHEM — Gainesville split a pair of Area 8-6A matches Tuesday in girls volleyball action on the road.
The Lady Red Elephants (7-10, 2-2 Area 8-6A) opened with with a tough loss to Winder-Barrow (25-20, 16-25, 25-20) but rebounded with a 25-15, 25-17 win over Dacula.
Ansley Turner led Gainesvile with 14 kills, 14 assists and 13 digs. Camille Holcomb added 17 assists and 12 digs, and Lauren Ware had 5 kills and 10 digs for the Lady Red Elephants.
Olivia Gettys had 8 kills and Camille Calkins had 6 kills and 4 blocks while Isabella Appling had 27 digs, and Karlea Grace Langford added 18 digs for Gainesville.
The Lady Red Elephants next will travel to a tri-match at Alpharetta on Thursday before competing in the Rally High Tournament in Emerson on the weekend.
Buford fought off Class 7A Norcross and then routed Cedar Shoals to open Area 8-5A play Tuesday night.
The Lady Wolves (12-5, 1-0 Area 8-5A) was pushed to the limit by Norcross 25-17, 19-25, 28-26 but rebounded by making quick work of Cedar Shoals 25-8, 25-8 in their Area 8-5A opener.
Chloe Kerr had 8 kills and 2 blocks and Mikayla Hayden added 7 kills to lead Buford. Julieanne Saliba had 22 digs and Gabbie Hogle 21 assists for the Lady Wolves.
NORTH HALL SPLITS
North Hall beat Cherokee Bluff and then fell to Tallulah Falls to split a pair of matches Tuesday.
The Lady Trojans opened with a 25-16, 25-14 win over Cherokee Bluff but fell 25-23, 26-24 to Tallulah Falls in a very close match.
Dovie Williams had 10 kills, 2 aces, 1 block and Grace Hollifield had 7 kills and 5 blocks to pace North Hall. Madison Brock had 8 kills, 7 aces, and 9 digs; Maci Gillespie added 21 assists, and 2 aces; Alexandria Bryant had 3 aces, 5 kills, and 11 digs, and Bella Foster had 16 digs and 2 aces for North Hall. Zoe Finelli had 8 digs and 1 ace, Ansley Smallwood had 2 blocks and 1 kill, Caitlyn Miller added 1 ace and 3 digs, and Mackenzie Crisp had 2 blocks for the Lady Trojans.
