Former assistant superintendent to take on interim duties at Buford City Schools

By AccessWDUN Staff
The former assistant superintendent of Buford City Schools has been asked to serve as interim superintendent of the system.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reports Joy Davis, who served from 2012 to 2017, has been hired to take the job on an interim basis following last week's resignation of Geye Hamby, who stepped down as the result of a racial discrimination lawsuit.

With a letter to parents announcing Davis' return to the school system, board members apologized for the embarrassment the allegations against Hamby had brought to the Buford School district.

A former employee filed the suit against Hamby and the school system, charging racial discrimination in her dismissal. Part of the suit includes an audio tape, allegedly of Hamby using racial slurs in reference to construction workers on school property.
