Drug investigators make significant meth bust at Alto residence

Investigators with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) said Wednesday they made a significant methamphetamine arrest in Alto.
 
Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey told AccessWDUN agents executed a search warrant Wednesday at 7455 Old Cornelia Highway.
 
Posey said agents found more than a pound of methamphetamine in a safe along with $9,525 in cash. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be $57,000.
 
Posey said when ARDEO agents entered the home, they found five people sitting on a couch and stuffed under a cushion on the couch was a .38 caliber handgun.
 
He added they arrested resident James Hood, 33. He is charged with trafficking methamphetamine, conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
 
Also arrested was Charles Freeman, 36, Cornelia. He is charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. A third person, Jessica Martinez, 32, Homer is charged with trafficking methamphetamine.
 
Posey said Hood and Freeman were booked into the Habersham County Detention Center and Martinez was booked into the Hall County Detention Center.
 
Posey added agents were assisted by the Habersham County Sheriff's Office and the Hall County Multi Agency Narcotics Squad.
