Barrow County authorities plan active shooter training course

By AccessWDUN Staff

Emergency responders have scheduled an active shooter training event for Aug. 27 in Barrow County.

The class will be hosted by Barrow County Emergency Services and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and is open to the public.

The Civilian Response To Active Shooter Events class was developed by Texas University’s Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training. The class will be taught by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency’s School Safety staff.

The training will provide citizens with strategies, guidance and plans for an active shooter event. It is free to attend.

“This is a good class to attend to learn what happens in an active shooter event and how you can plan to protect yourselves and your loved ones,”  said Emergency Management Director Penny Clack. “We hope to see many citizens take advantage of this free training.”

While children can attend, they must be accompanied by an adult and Clack said the content of the class may not be appropriate for small children.

The class is set for August 27, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Winder First Baptist Church, 625 Jefferson Highway.
