Volleyball: Lady Vikings open strong on the road

COVINGTON — The East Hall girls volleyball team opened its season in solid fashion Saturday taking four of five match wins on a long opening day.

The Lady Vikings began the day with a 25-16,25-11 win over Newton County befor losing to Young Americans Christian 20-25,25-20,5-15. East Hall then  rebounded to win its final three matches without dropping a set beating Salem 25-12, 25-2, Stockbridge 25-13,25-22 and Eastside 26-24,27-25.

Savannah Thellman scored 26 points on serve with 10 aces, 6 kills, 4 digs and 53 assists and Tessa Rider scored 36 points on serve with 11 aces, 43 kills, 2 assists and 44 digs for East Hall. Lakeria Whelchel scored 16 points on serve with 7 aces, 4 kills, 1 assist, 3 digs and 2 blocks, Ivey Shadburn scored 8 points on serve with 2 aces, 3 kills, 1 assist and 15 digs, and Janelly Lara scored 19 points on serve with 6 aces, 7 kills, 3 assists and 46 digs for the Lady Vikings.

Nehemiah Jinks had 21 kills, 3 digs and 6 blocks, Alysia Teague scored 10 points on serve with 10 aces, 6 assists, 1 kill and 52 digs, Katie Baugh added 9 points on serve with 3 aces and 2 digs, and Andrea Ayon had 24 points on serve with 4 aces, 4 kills, 1 dig and 8 assists.

The Lady Vikings (4-1) next will travel to Jackson Co. on Tuesday for a trimatch with the Lady Panthers and Johnson.
