Hall County Commission to decide whether to put Sunday alcohol sales question on November ballot

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Hall County may join several other local jurisdictions in asking its citizens in the November election if it should allow earlier alcohol sales on Sunday.

The "Brunch Bill", as it has been labeled by some state officials, would allow restaurants to sell alcoholic drinks at starting at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays, rather than 12:15 p.m. as is currently allowed. The Hall County Commission will vote Thursday on whether or not it will put the question on the November ballot.

Forsyth County, as well as the cities of Gainesville, Oakwood and Flowery Branch, have all voted to ask their voters to decide the matter. Hall County Planning Director Srikanth Yamala said if the county votes on Thursday, it should fall within the state mandated time frame to put the question on the ballot.

Commission Chairman Richard Higgins asked county attorneys if the vote could be placed on Thursday's consent agenda, but District Three Commissioner Scott Gibbs said he wanted the vote held seperately.

The commission's voting session will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Hall County Government Center on Browns Bridge Road.
