Mayfield Visitors Center in Braselton will close Aug. 31

By AccessWDUN Staff

In the two decades it has been open, the Mayfield Visitors Center in Braselton has served up thousands and thousands of scoops of ice cream, but now the facility will close indefinitely.

The news of the closing came this past week on Facebook with a short announcement that offered no explanation for the closure.

"We regret to inform you that our Braselton Visitors Center will be closing indefinitely on August 31, 2018. We have enjoyed serving the community and so many people from all over! You can still stop in and get ice cream through August 31st. There are no tours being offered. We also have 40% off of all items in our gift shop."

The facility originally opened in 1997, and in 2011 it closed for nearly a year while Mayfield worked to make the Visitors Center more viable financially.  At the time, city officials in Braselton appealed to Mayfield to reopen the facility, and it re-opened on November 9, 2012.

The dairy's Visitors Center was a popular field trip destination for school children from across North Georgia.
