Atlanta United plays host to D.C. United

ATLANTA — Atlanta United returns to action on Saturday playing host to D.C. United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta enters the match atop the Supporters’ Shield Standings (12-4-5, 41 points) while D.C. sits in 11th in the Eastern Conference (3-7-5, 14 points). The match is scheduled to kick-off at 3:30 p.m. EST and will be nationally televised on Univision.

Atlanta is coming off a 1-1 draw against Seattle at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 15 in front of an MLS-record crowd of 72,243. Nicolas Lodeiro gave Seattle a 1-0 lead just before halftime after VAR ruled a penalty kick in favor of Seattle. Three minutes into the second-half, Josef Martínez headed in his 19th goal of the season on a cross from Julian Gressel to level the match.

D.C. United opened Audi Field with a 3-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps on July 14. Yamil Asad scored the first goal in the stadium’s history, while Paul Arriola scored a second-half brace. New signing Wayne Rooney made his D.C. debut in the 58th minute.
