Gwinnett police seek identity of body found in a Loganville lake

Gwinnett Police say a body found in a small lake could be that of a person who went missing earlier this week.

Sgt. Jake Smith said Loganville police began searching for Alvin Ahmed Monday after he was last seen leaving his job at the Publix on Atlanta Highway around 9:30 p.m.

Smith says a neighbor spotted something floating in Lake Carlton and called for help. First responders couldn't reach the body by land and Smith says, "The fire department brought a boat. They were able to go out there and say it was, in fact, a deceased male."

Medical officials performed an autopsy Thursday, but could not determine the identity of the person.

Smith says, "It seems like the level of decomposition they found could potentially match the time frame for Loganville's missing person case."

Officials say more tests will be needed before a positive ID can be made and those results will likely not be available Thursday.
