Deputies: Man arrested for shooting, killing dog at Hall County home

An Atlanta man is now in custody in connection to a February shooting that left a Hall County man's dog dead.

Dayvon A. Daye, 27, allegedly turned up at the home on Berkshire Ridge Drive on February 16 around 1 a.m. holding a gun and demanding money via an online transfer, said Derreck Booth, Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman, in a statement.

The home is owned by a 49-year-old man who is acquainted with Daye, said Booth.

Daye allegedly fired the gun during the confrontation, but nobody was injured.

The victim told Daye that the online transfer wasn't working, at which point Daye allegedly took the man's cellphone. The victim fled the scene trying to get help, and he told deputies that he heard gunshots as he ran from his home.

When the man returned to the home with law enforcement, they found that the man's dog had been shot. It later died.

Daye was arrested in late February on unrelated charges in Gwinnett County — another shooting at a McDonald's restaurant in Duluth February 17, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution — and extradited to Hall County on July 13.

Daye is charged with armed robbery and aggravated animal cruelty, and he's being held without bond.
