Forsyth County murder fugitive found in Mexico

By B.J. Williams
A man wanted for a 2010 murder in Forsyth County has been returned to North Georgia to face trial after being captured in Mexico.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said in a Tuesday press statement the agency worked with FBI and the government of Mexico to return Jorge Montiel, 32, to Cumming.

Nelly Miles of the GBI said when Maria Hernandez-Reyes was found dead in a Cumming home in 2010 they swore out warrants for Montiel on charges of burglary, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated sodomy and murder. However, Montiel fled to Mexico before he could be arrested.

Montiel is now in the Forsyth County Detention Center awaiting trial.
