Gainesville man charged in connection to child molestation case

A Gainesville man is behind bars, facing child molestation and felony sexual battery charges.

Robert Lewis Chandler, 65, was charged over the weekend after an adult relative of a four year old female child took the victim to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center on Saturday.

A Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigator responded and began investigating the abuse. They determined Chandler did "repeated immoral and indecent acts to the victim at a residence in the county," a press release from the Sheriff's Office said.

In addition, the press release states the suspect and the victim were familiar and the abuse happened between September of last year and the time of the arrest.

Chandler waived his committal hearing at his first appearance on Monday. He’s being held at the Hall County Jail without bond. Chandler was taken in to custody at his home on Memorial Park Drive on Saturday.
