Maysville woman killed in Saturday motorcycle crash

By B.J. Williams

A motorcycle driver was seriously injured and his passenger was killed in a crash Saturday evening in Lula.

Sgt. Auston Allen with the Georgia State Patrol said the accident happened just after 5:30 p.m. on June 30 on Highway 52 just west of Georgia 365.

"The vehicle was traveling west on Georgia 52 and for unknown reasons exited the north shoulder of the roadway, traveled down a steep embankment," Allen said. "Once they struck the bottom of the embankment...overturned several times, ejecting both people, the driver and the passenger."

Allen identified the driver as Hugh Lambert, 45. The passenger, who died at the scene, was Lambert's longtime girlfriend, Cheryl Morales, 56.

Allen said a witness told troopers investigating the accident there was no erratic driving on the part of the Lambert.

"Both driver and passenger had helmets on at the time of the crash," Allen said. He said the driver was not impaired.

Allen said it is possible charges will be filed against Lambert once he gets out of the hospital, but at this time charges are pending.
