Woman arrested for impersonating state trooper during DUI investigation

A woman who reportedly claimed she was a state trooper to Gainesville Police officers Friday remains in the Hall County Detention Center.

Janice Mallory faces charges including DUI, impersonating a public officer and no license on person.

A 911 caller reported a person passed out, behind the wheel of a car in the Ingles parking lot of Thompson Bridge Road. After officers attempted to wake up Mallory, Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said they began a DUI investigation.

"During that investigation, Ms. Mallory did identify herself as a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol. She did intentionally mislead officers in representing herself as a Georgia State Trooper and they did ask her numerous times, she stated she worked out of the Cumming Post, worked along Georgia 400," said Holbrook.

"Of course, the officers knowing a vast majority of the troopers in the area did not recognize her, as well as she did not appear that she would be any person who did work in law enforcement," said Holbrook.

After contacting the Georgia State Patrol and confirming she was not a trooper, she was charged with impersonating an officer.

Holbrook said nothing like badges, ID's or other items were found so they do not believe she was representing herself as a trooper to others; he said they believe she was just representing herself because of the DUI investigation.

Bond was set at $3,600.
