Forsyth County school board approves FY2019 budget

The Forsyth County School Board prepares to bring on more than 200 new employees with the next fiscal year budget.
 
Superintendent Dr. Jeff Bearden said the budget totals $444 million dollars and most of the new positions will come with the two new high schools the county is opening up this year. One wil be Denmark High School in Alpharetta and the other is the Alliance Academy for Innovation in Cumming, a magnet school.

School system Chief Financial Officer Chris Griner told the board during their recent meeting that intially there was a defecit, based on the tax digest, of $700,000.
 
That number changed in the budget process, with Griner telling the board, "When we got the new budget number, they actually flipped to an increased fund balance of $1,655,784.

Council approved the budget unanimously.
