Update: Dead baby's mother charged with manslaughter

A Murrayville woman now faces a charge of manslaughter in the death of her six-month-old son, found dead in a motel room freezer a week ago.

In a press statement, the Dothan Police Department in Alabama said Amanda Gail Oakes, 36, remains jailed with no bond on the manslaughter charge. In addition, she faces a charges of abuse of a corpse.

Oakes’ infant son, identified as Carlton James Oakes, was found in a freezer at the In Town Suites on  Ross Clark Circle in Dothan.  

The baby's father Carlton James Mathis also faces charges in the death. He remains hospitalized after being shot by SWAT officers in Alachua, Florida.

According to a report in the Dothan Eagle, autopsy results on the child have not yet been released.
