Austin Horton drove to a big lead, and never looked back en route to the Super Late Model feature victory at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia.
The win came as the speedway celebrated its 49th year in operation on Saturday night.
It marked the first win at the track for the Newnan, Georgia speedster, and his fifth overall victory of the 2018 season.
The battle of the night was for second, as Ashton Winger and Aaron Ridley raced for the position most of the way. In the end, it was Ridley getting the spot on the final lap. Shawn Chastain followed in fourth ahead of defending track champion Jason Croft.
Dale Thurman became the first repeat winner of the Steelhead/525 Class of the season. Matt Bishop finished in second, followed by South Africa transplant Jacques Daniel in third, Dalton Polston in fourth and Jimmy Price in fifth. Landon Bagby was the man to beat until mechanical failure halted his run for the night.
It was Championship night for the Crate Late Models, and after taking a weekend off of racing, Colby Kilgore became the division’s first repeat winner of the season. Shane Smith came home in second, followed by Bobby Richey in third, Rodney Martin in fourth and A.J. Carlisi in fifth.
Allen Brewer also became a first repeat winner, as he led the distance in the 602 Sportsman race. Drew larson, Nick May, Chris Hough, and Colten Jackson rounded out the top five.
Dan Meadows led the way in the Economy Bomber feature, but was shadowed almost the entire distance by Andrew Johnson. Johnson made several unsuccessful attempts to pass, only to spin out on the final lap. That allowed Justin Begley to take second followed by Joe Trantham in third, Dylan Armstrong in fourth and Randy Smith in fifth.
Tony Newman had four straight wins coming into this weekend in the Street Stingers and looked to be about to lose that streak. But his fortunes changed when the top two cars tangled on the frontstretch, knocking each other out of contention. This left Newman clear sailing for win number five. John Summerville finished second, with Cody Holmes third, Paul Hetsenrether fourth and Brandy Brewer in fifth.
Willie Horton was the winner in the Reverse Race.
