Townhome fire leaves one dead in Norcross

A woman in critical condition after a townhouse fire in Norcross early Tuesday morning has died.

According to an update from Gwinnett County Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge, the woman was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at Gwinnett Medical Center Tuesday morning.

The identity of the woman has not yet been released.

Two other adults fire in the 900 block of Summer Place unharmed. They were outside the unit when fire crews arrived and are currently speaking with authorities.

A cause of the fire has not been determined, however the caller to 9-1-1 reported that something was on fire in the kitchen. The woman's exact cause of death and other circumstances surrounding the incident have also not been determined.

Crews arrived at the two-story townhouse at about 2:40 a.m. and found heavy fire involvement on the first and second floor of the middle unit. After firefighters entered the home with attack hose lines, they were able to locate the woman on the second floor. She was removed from the home and taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville in critical/life threatening condition, where she later was pronounced dead.
