John Owenby made his first ever visit to North Alabama Speedway a good one.
The Cleveland, Tennesee native scored the victory in Saturday night’s Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series feature at the Tuscumbia, Alabama raceway.
It marks Owenby’s first series victory, and made him the sixth different winner in as many races on the tour this season.
Owenby started on pole and led the first 11 laps before Riley Hickman bypassed him to take the lead.
Hickman paced the race until he raced into lap traffic with eight laps to go. That gave Owenby the advantage, as he made the pass on the inside of Hickman to take the lead.
From there, Owenby went on to take the win. Hickman had to settle for second, with Jay Scott in third, Rick Rickman in fourth and Eric Hickerson in fifth.
Christian Hanger, Brad Skinner, Ben Brocato, Jason Frame and Daniel Miller rounded out the top ten.
The next Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series event will be the first stop of the season at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee on June 16. For more information, visit SASDirt.com.
