Army appoints man with northeast Georgia ties to lead Cyber Command

With cyber crimes on the rise, the pentagon appointed a three-star Lieutenant General with northeast Georgia ties be the commanding general at the U.S. Army Cyber Command in Virginia.

Major General Stephen G. Fogarty grew up in Savannah but graduated from the University of North Georgia back in 1983. That's when he started his military career as a Second Lieutenant in military intelligence. Fogarty also holds a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University and a master's degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. His military education includes Airborne School, the Military Intelligence Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Ranger School, Jumpmaster Course, Combined Arms & Services Staff School, Long Range Surveillance Leaders Course, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.

The new commander could be moving back to his home state of Georgia sometime in 2020 when the Army expects to relocate the cyber command headquarters to a facility at Fort Gordon near Augusta.
