The Riverside Academy Board of Trustees announced Tuesday evening Col. William J. Gallagher has resigned as president of the school. Gallagher had held the post for less than two years.
“We wish COL Gallagher the best in his future endeavors,” said Board Chairman Rusty Griffin in a press statement. “Riverside is on a mission to become the top military school in the country, and our Board will now be focused on finding a new leader to continue to guide us toward that end goal.”
Griffin said the Board will conduct a nationwide search for a new president. Meanwhile, Commandant of the Riverside Corps of Cadets Col. James Spivey is stepping into the roll on an interim basis, until a new president is hired.
Gallagher leaves the school just days before the Saturday commencement when 109 cadets will receive diplomas from the private school in Gainesville.
Riverside is a 111-year-old school serving more than 500 young men in grades 7-12.
