Police: Jefferson woman, with baby in tow, tried to ram officer with car

A Jefferson woman is facing charges for allegedly trying to ram an officer with her car, all while her baby was inside the vehicle.

Oteasha Millsap, 26, was pulled over Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. in the Kroger shopping center along Old Pendergrass Road when she apparently put her car in reverse in an attempt to hit the officer who pulled her over, said Joe Wirthman, Jefferson Police chief.

At that point, Millsap drove from the scene while a male passenger got out of the vehicle and ran. Police gave chase, which lasted a little more than a mile before it came to an end on Oak Street.

"She got out of the car holding the baby. My officer went over and made an apprehension, didn't use anything more than normal physical force," said Wirthman when reached by phone.

"We took the baby from her, and she was arrested."

The chase, it should be noted, did not turn into an all-out high speed pursuit. Millsap even took the care to use her turn signals during the ordeal, said Wirthman.

Workers at nearby businesses helped officers locate the male.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

"That's two incidents in a two-week period that my officers, I believe, did the right thing and managed to make the arrests," said Wirthman, referencing an officer-involved shooting that happened April 18.
