ST. SIMONS ISLAND — The Georgia men’s golf team finished 11th on Friday in the 2018 Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Championship at Sea Island Golf Club.

The Bulldogs shot a final-round 9-over 289 to wind up at 22-over 862. LSU (834), Vanderbilt (843), Alabama (848), Auburn (848), Arkansas (848), Ole Miss (851) and Texas A&M (851) were the eight squads advancing to Saturday’s match play competition.

Sophomore Trevor Phillips paced the Bulldogs in the final round with a 1-under 69. Sophomore Spencer Ralston signed for an even-par 70, followed by senior Zach Healy at 4-over 74 and junior Jack Larkin Jr. at 6-over 76. Freshman Davis Thompson recorded an 8-over 78.

Phillips finished 11th at even-par 210, five shots behind Florida’s Andy Zhang, who defeated Ole Miss’ Cecil Wegener in a 3-hole playoff. Ralston landed at 3-over 213, while Healy and Larkin both finished at 12-over 222, and Thompson wound up at 16-over 226.

The Bulldogs will learn their NCAA Regional assignment on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The announcement will be made on The Golf Channel. The Regionals will take place May 14-16.

“We did not get the results we had hoped for this week,” Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. “That doesn’t mean we didn’t make strides. There are always positives that come out of any tournament. We’ll take those, get back to work on Monday, and get ourselves ready for the next event.”
