Suwanee City Council approves wine shop, bridge work

Suwanee City Council has given the green light for a boutique wine shop to open its doors in Suwanee Town Center, while also approving an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to replace a bridge near the Suwanee Creek Greenway.

Sip Happens is slated to open in the plaza near Friends Bar & Grill in Suwanee Town Center, said Marty Allen, city manager.

The shop will offer wine, meats and cheeses, primarily, and the applicants were requesting the ability to sell to-go drinks during the city's many events in Town Center Park, a motion city council granted Tuesday night in its unanimous vote of approval.

Council also gave its unanimous approval to an agreement with GDOT that will eventually lead to the full replacement of the Martin Farm Road bridge near the Suwanee Creek Greenway.

The city will have to pay an estimated $315,000 in right-of-way costs, but the remainder of the $2.4 million project will be fully funded by GDOT, said Allen.

City staff originally looked at rehabbing the bridge, but then got word from GDOT that state funding might be available to perform a full replacement.

Construction is still 12 or more months away, said Allen.
