Soccer: Chestatee boys and girls prevail; Lady Red Elephants claim top 10 scalp; GHS boys roll

GAINESVILLE — The Gainesville High girls soccer team knocked off No. 8 Lanier in penalties on Friday in Gainesville.

The Lady Red Elephants (4-6, 2-3 Region 8-AAAAAA) battled the Lady Longhorns to a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime but won the shootout 5-3 to grab a key Region 8-AAAAAA victory.

Kate Bush scored Gainesville's regulation goal, converting a penalty kick to take a first half lead. But the Lady Longhorns pegged the Lady Red Elephants back to knot the score 1-1 in regulation.

Once in penalties, Gainesville's Schyler Ortiz, Cindy Bonilla, Haley Sorrells, Jessica Hackney and Bush all converted penalties, Bush slamming home the winner, 5-3.

Marlyn Blanco made a number of crucial saves in goal for Gainesville.

The Lady Red Elephants will take on Apalachee on Tuesday at City Park. 


CHESTATEE GIRLS 3,

The Lady War Eagles knocked off the Lady Red Raiders on Friday at the University of North Georgia Soccer complex in Dahlonega. 

Genesis Reyes produced a starring role in the win for Chestatee, providing two assists and a goal in the win.

Chestatee's Kyleigh Drew scored her team's first goal in the 19th minute off of an assist from Reyes. Reyes also assisted Kyleigh Drew's pile driver shot before before scoring off a free kick in the 55th minute.  

Chestatee plays host to Marist on Tuesday

Austin Manzo, Jeyson Garcia, and Mateus Jennings scored for the War Eagles as they maintained their perfect record.

Top-ranked Chestatee will play host to Marist on Tuesday.


GAINESVILLE BOYS 3,
LANIER 0

The Red Elephants continued their defensive dominance at home on Friday, as they notched a region win at City Park.

Jovanei Santana, Pedro Santos, and Bryan Oliveros each scored goals for the Red Elephants (10-0, 5-0 Region 8-AAAAAA), while Cristian Rodriguez and Edwin Garcia provided assists.

Gainesville has yet to concede a goal in four home matches this season.

The Red Elephants play host to Apalachee on Tuesday.
