Baseball: Raiders drop pitcher's duel to South Forsyth

By AccessWDUN

COAL MOUNTAIN — North Forsyth's rally from an early 3-0 deficit fell short as the Raiders lost 3-2 to South Forsyth in a Region 5-AAAAAAA battle of two of the region's best pitchers.

The loss dropped North Forsyth (11-3, 0-2 Region 5-AAAAAAA) to the bottom of the early standings. They came into the two-game series with South Forsyth (9-4, 2-0) riding a 10-game winning streak.

North Forsyth's Brody Westbrook's, a Georgia Tech-commit, went six innings allowing three runs -- just two earned on eight hits while striking out seven. Cooper Davidson scattered five hits and allowed just two runs in a complete-game effort for the War Eagles.

The Raiders gave up three runs in the second inning, helped by two costly errors. The game stayed that way until Kyle Martin belted a two-run home run in the sixth to pull North Forsyth within 3-2.

North Forsyth's Caelan Thomas pitched a scoreless inning in the seventh and the Raiders had the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh when Davidson got the final of his three strikeouts to end the game.

The Raiders will play host to Milton on Friday in another key region battle.
