Family displaced following Buford house fire

A Buford family is displaced following an early Sunday morning fire.

Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Justin Wilson says the fire started just after 5 a.m. on the back porch of the home on Island Ford Road.

"Most of the fire damage was contained to the back porch area where it initially started," said Wilson. "But some fire did extend into the kitchen area and cause moderate damage to the kitchen. It did send smoke throughout the rest of the home."

Wilson said the family had left hot coals from a barbecue grill in a bucket on the back porch, and that bucket was determined to be the origin of the fire.

He added the home did have smoke detectors, but they did not activate because the fire started outside of the house.

Two adults, two children and one dog were displaced.
