Reward offered in Banks County home arson

HOMER — A reward of up to $10,000 is available to anyone with information about the person(s) responsible for the fire that destroyed a Banks County home Monday afternoon.

Banks County Fire/EMS and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department were dispatched to the reported structure fire at 884 East Ridgeway Road, Commerce, at 3:13 p.m. March 5. Upon arrival, firefighters found a one-story, single-family home well involved with fire, according to Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols.

The residence, vacant at the time of the incident, was listed as a total loss, according to Nichols.

The cause of the fire is listed as arson and remains under investigation by Banks County Fire Department in conjunction with the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office, Nichols said.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Georgia Arson Hotline at (800) 282-5804. A reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

No injuries were reported.

Units remained on scene until 7:51 p.m., according to Nichols.
