MACON — Each season Taniyah Worth and Lexie Sengkhammee saw the progress under way at Flowery Branch and told themselves to work that much harder.
Now that effort has paid off with the Lady Falcons' first ever basketball state championship appearance.
Led by the senior duo of Worth and Sengkhammee -- as well as juniors Caroline Wysocki and Ashley Woodroffe -- the Branch will enter the Macon Colisuem at 6 p.m. Thursday with a shot at the Class 5A title on the line.
In the Lady Falcons path is a well-familiar foe, as Region 8-AAAAA rival Buford guns for a second straight state championship while making its eighth title game appearance in 10 seasons.
Yet the Branch feels the time is ripe to continue its playoff assault after an atonishing set of postseason performances, including overcoming a 15-point first half deficit in last week's semifinal victory.
