Alpharetta man held without bond in Forsyth County rape case

An Alpharetta man is charged in Forsyth County with raping a woman he met through an online dating service late last year.

Sheriff's Corporal Doug Rainwater said authorities arrested Anuj Vohra, 48, on Feb. 1.

Rainwater said the incident occurred last November when Vohra and the victim met in person.  The two had reportedly been traveling in Vohra's car when the alleged crime happened on Campground Road in the southern end of the county.

"He stopped the car in a church parking lot in Forsyth County, just passing through, and at that time, this man took advantage of the female," Rainwater said.

The victim made the complaint from a hospital on the day of the incident, and the investigation started, according to Rainwater.

"We sent many things to the (Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab), and the (crime lab) has to analyze everything before we make the charges.  That's the reason why there's a two-month time span here."

Vohra remained in the Forsyth County Jail without bond Wednesday, charged with aggravated assault and sodomy and strong arm rape.

Rainwater said people who develop online relationships and want to meet in person should do so in a public place.

"Meet at a public restaurant your first date.  You drive to the restaurant.  He drives to the restaurant.  Meet somewhere public," Rainwater said.  "Get to know the person, and down the road if everything works out, then you can maybe have just a normal date in terms of him picking you up."

UPDATE: Charges of rape and aggravated assault against Vohra were dismissed on December 20, 2018, according to documents from the District Attorney's Office in the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit.
