UPDATE: Second West Forsyth High School student arrested for alleged threat

A second West Forsyth High School student was arrested Thursday afternoon for an additional threat against the school on social media.

According to a Facebook post from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, deputies said the 15-year-old male student authored the threat on Twitter.

On Thursday morning, deputies arrested a 16-year-old male student for a social medial threat reported Wednesday evening.

"Our investigation into both occurrences at West Forsyth High does not indicate any further suspects are involved," Sheriff's Cpl. Doug Rainwater wrote.

In emails sent to West Forsyth staff and parents, Principal Karl Mercer said neither suspected student would be returning to school.

Also Thursday, deputies said students overheard a threat made by a male student at North Forsyth Middle School.

Authorities said that male student was taken for evaluation and treatment.

"Furthermore, it is also important for parents to remind their children how severe their words can be, regardless of what context they are spoken, and they can trigger serious concern and consequences," Rainwater added.  "Threats, in any capacity, are not a joking matter."

Both Mercer and Rainwater said officials with the school system and sheriff's office take every report of a threat and suspicious activity seriously.

Mercer also indicated that anonymous tips can be submitted by phone, text or email with Campus Crime Stoppers.
