Mt. Airy calls for May Special Election to fill council vacancy

MT. AIRY — The Mt. Airy Town Council voted Monday night to proceed with a Special Election on Tuesday, May 22.

The Special Election will fill a vacant seat on the town council, and follows the recent death of Councilwoman Linda Hughes in January.

The qualifying fee is set at $20.

Qualifying for the seat will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, March 5-8; and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, March 9, at the office of Habersham County Elections Supervisor Laurel Ellison in the basement of the Habersham County Administrative Building, 555 Monroe St., Clarkesville, according to Ellison.

The person elected for the at-large seat will served a term of one year, six months and 27 days beginning June 4 of this year and continuing through Dec. 31, 2019.
