GFD works gasoline leak at Gainesville Kangaroo station

By AccessWDUN Staff

Gainesville Fire personnel responded to a gasoline leak at an area gas station early Sunday afternoon.

According to Division Chief Keith Smith, the call came in just after noon to the Kangaroo station on Park Hill Drive.  Upon arrival, fire personnel were informed by store employees that they believed the underground gasoline storage tanks were leaking.

Smith said the owner had recently filled the tanks, and noticed over the last two days that the tanks had lost approximately 500 gallons of gasoline.

Personnel found that an underground leak had come above ground behind the business, and had entered the storm drains in the Glencove apartment complex.

Smith said crews are continuing to monitor the area as they await a clean up company.  He said the Gainesville Fire Department is working with the Gainesville Department of Water Resources, Gainesville Street Department and the Environmental Protection Agency to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

Smith added that there have been no reported injuries or complaints thus far.
