Woman rescued from flooded creek faces DUI charges

The woman rescued from flood waters in Clay Creek Falls in Lumpkin County Friday morning will face multiple charges including DUI, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Post 37 Commander Curtis Bradshaw said 29 year-old Andrea Marie McMeans of Dahlonega was driving a 1996 Ford Ranger north on Clay Creek Falls Road when she attempted to negotiate a left-hand curve. Bradshaw said she left the roadway, traveled down a small embankment, struck a tree with the right side of the truck, and then went into the creek.

He said the swift current pulled the truck several hundred feet downstream and it came to a rest in the middle of the creek facing north.  The Forsyth County Swift Water Rescue team helped the driver and a two month old male infant passenger get out of the truck safely.

Emergency crews transported the driver and the baby to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with non-life threatening injuries.

Bradshaw said McMeans was wearing her seatbelt and the baby was strapped into a rear-facing child safety seat when the incident occurred.

He said McMeans faces charges of failure to maintain lane, DUI, and DUI-child endangerment.

Bradshaw said troopers heard reports that a passerby caught the wreck on a dash camera. They are asking for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the State Patrol office at 770-205-5400.
