Forsyth County home destroyed by fire

A fire in West Forsyth County destroys a home leaving four people displaced.

Division Chief Jason Shivers said the floor plan of the home, built in 1953, created some challenges.

"Over the years it had been modified and it had quite an interesting footprint to the inside of it," Shivers said. "That made the fire operations a little bit challenging for us. The home did suffer extensive damage, heavy fire damage and extensive smoke damage."

Shivers said 4 fire stations responded to the single story home where three adults and one young child lived. He said it took about an hour to get the blaze under control.

"We did have one firefighter injured on scene, minor, and he's going to recover just fine," added Shivers.

He said fire fighters gather toys each year through their charity called Ariel's House and made a special delivery later in the afternoon.

He explained, "We were actually able to get some toys out to the family this afternoon to provide some items for the child to have on Christmas morning."

He says the Red Cross is also helping the family. Investigators believe the fire to be sparked accidentally and Shivers says the structure is a total loss.
