Girls basketball: East Hall, Buford, Bluff wins; Dawson falls to Sequoyah

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The East Hall Lady Vikings beat Chiles, Fla. into submission Saturday afternoon in the Beach Bash holiday tournament.

The Lady Vikings were leading 54-32 when Chiles coach forfeited with 5:43 left in the game, giving East Hall the win.

"We executed, play hard and fast," East Hall coach Justin Wheeler said. "We had a great team effort which is what we ask for our girls. We had players step up which is always fun to see. Overall, we had an outstanding trip."

Ivey Shadburn led the Lady Vikings with 12 points, Aaliyah Ellison had 9, and Alexis Burce chipped in 7. 

East Hall (6-8) will play Gainesville on Dec. 27 in the first round of the Lanierland tournament at Chestatee High School. Game time is 3:30 p.m.

 

BUFORD 39
ARCHER 30

Tate Walters scored 9 points to lead the Buford Lady Wolves past Archer Saturday on the road. 

Ashyia Willis tossed in 7 points.
 
Walters and Willis were key down the stretch from the foul line. Walters was 5-for-6 and Willis was a perfect 6-for-6.

Buford (10-1) will host St. Pius X Jan. 2. Game time is 2 p.m.

 

CHEROKEE BLUFF 80
PRINCE AVENUE 68

Cherokee Bluff had no problem scoring against Prince Avenue Christian Saturday night on the road.

Maddie Thomas hit six 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead the Lady Bears past Prince Avenue. Chelsea Reece also was feeling it from 3-point land, sinking five and scoring 15 points. 

Madi Phillps scored 18 points and Timber Gaither knocked down 17 in the win. 

Cherokee Bluff (7-6, 0-4) will play Flowery Branch in the Lanierland tournament at Chestatee High School on Dec. 27. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

 

SEQUOYAH 79
DAWSON COUNTY 63

Dawson County couldn't convert defensive stops into baskets in the loss to Sequoyah in the War Lodge Invitational Saturday night in Canton.

"We actually played some good defense," Dawson coach Steve Sweat said. "We played some good defense and got some stops, but we didn't get any points off of them. You have to take advantage of it when you stop a good scoring team."

Sweat also said turnovers hurt the Lady Tigers.

Sequoyah outscored the Lady Tigers 43-32 in the first half and 36-31 in the second.

Kaylee Sticker led Dawson with 25 points, Mariah Benson scored 10, Shyla Sheffield had 8, Maddie Anglin scored 6, Sophia D'Oliveira had 5, Marlie Townley had 4, Ella Siuta had 3, and Rachel Swafford scored 2 points.

Dawson (8-4, 3-1) will play Wade Hampton, SC in The McDonald's Shootout at Hart County on Dec. 27. Game time is 3 p.m.
