Sheriff: Three Blairsville residents die in Union County plane crash

Union County Sheriff Mack Mason has released the identities of the three Blairsville residents who died in a plane crash that critically injured a fourth person in the area of Blairsville Municipal Airport Wednesday night.

The victims who lost their lives include Robert Atkinson, 56; Renea Greiner, 55; and Michelle Seay, 50. All three died at the scene of the crash.

A fourth occupant, so far unnamed, was critically injured and had to be extricated before being airlifted to a nearby trauma center, according to Mason’s office.

The crash was reported at 7:36 p.m., and Union County Fire Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Blairsville Police Department, and Union General EMS responded, located the fixed-wing Piper PA-28 181, a single-engine airplane, next to an open field near the airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
